PI KAPPA PHI FRATERNITY

Lifelong Brotherhood
It is good to come back to the source of all good things. We need water; we need food; and we need something for the spirit, and I don’t think there is anything better than a touch of refreshment of brotherhood and I don’t know of any better place to find that inspiration than in Pi Kappa Phi.

Howard Leake,
Rho (Washington & Lee)
National President 1948-1950

With more than 200 chartered chapters since our founding in 1904, Pi Kappa Phi has initiated over 90,000 members in its history. The need for something of the spirit that Brother Leake refers to in his now famous quote underscores the importance of promoting lifelong brotherhood. Pi Kappa Phi is committed to keeping the fraternal bonds alive between alumni, each other and their chapter, by facilitating positive and meaningful interaction. Whether it is reading about your chapter in the most recent Star & Lamp, receiving an invitation to a local alumni reception, or reading about a pledge brother in your chapter newsletter, staying connected with your fraternity is the essence of lifelong brotherhood.

Alumni Reflections

A Decade of Excellence
“It is hard to believe that its been 10 years."
"It seems like March 1998 was just the other day.”
“The chapter is so awesome today."

These were all things you could overhear at the 10-year anniversary celebration this past March. Time has certainly flown and the chapter has certainly grown. For those of us that were a part of the “band wagon with no wheels” back in 1998, we look at the chapter today with an incredible sense of pride and accomplishment. We called it the “band wagon with no wheels” because, at that time, we were recruiting guys to a part of something that we had no idea where it was going. These 60+ founders were all true visionaries, risk takers and leaders. It took an incredible amount of effort and courage to be willing to build something as ambitious as a college fraternity. At our chartering banquet at Texas Stadium, then National President Dr. Patrick Figley, commented how “we stand on the shoulders of giants today”. These 60+ men were and are truly giants.

Today’s Eta Chi is different from the Eta Chi a decade ago. The chapter is different in so many great ways that I will not attempt to name them. In 1998, we built the “house’s” foundation, but today’s Eta Chi is a castle. Taking the chapter from what was a rough foundation, to today’s incredible structure is equally as impressive as the feat of the founding fathers. In fact, the continuous effort to challenge itself and its members to reach higher heights is often a larger task than building the foundation.

Eta Chi today is a compilation of the many brothers that have come before. No single brother or group of brothers deserves the credit. Without the sum of the individual parts, the whole would not be as great. The challenge for our chapter and all of our brothers, both active and alumni, is to find ways to continue to contribute to the whole to make it better for those that follow.

Proud to be a Pi Kapp- Proud to be an Eta Chi-
